Welcome to East Cooper Planning Council
The East Cooper Planning Council fulfills its vision through programs of education and advocacy.
Education. The Planning Council provides a forum for ideas to help citizens better appreciate our shared public places, and take action to improve our towns and neighborhoods. Programs include lecture series, exhibits, walking tours, seminars and conferences on issues affecting our quality of life. Emphasis is placed on creating a sustainable vision for the area.
Advocacy. The Planning Council maintains a strong voice in the public domain, championing the continuation of Lowcountry agricultural, civic, and design traditions as vital resources for improving our built and natural environments. The ECPC’s hallmark is to advocate “FOR” rather than "AGAINST” by working with the community to find viable solutions for growth-related issues.
Our Mission: To advocate and support long term solutions to growth-related issues that will enhance the lives of present and future generations.
To accomplish its mission the Council adopts the following Values of P.L.A.C.E.:
- People. Our citizens are the source of our strength. We reach out to one another with trust and respect, holding high expectations for individual abilities and desires. This ideal involves a bottom-up faith in the East Cooper area’s famed spirit of hospitality, which is inclusive of all, and built on the strength of our diversity.
- Long-term. Recognizing that the decisions of today impact our children’s future, we resolve to approach challenges with a view toward how they affect our present and future economic, natural and cultural resources. We strive to see beyond our present vision.
- Aspire. We shall not rest on the accomplishments or limitations of previous generations, but aspire to advance our people and the stewardship of our natural resources while respecting fundamental freedoms, the fountainhead of our economic well-being.
- Community. We believe an inclusive spirit of mutually beneficial relationships within the strength of a diverse citizenry will enable the whole of our community to be far greater than the sum of its parts.
- Education. We believe in instilling these values in a manner that will enable them to be embraced by this and future generations.
